There’s something about a birthday that invites reflection.
Not because everything suddenly changes overnight, but because it offers a chance to pause. To look back at where you’ve been, appreciate how far you’ve come, and decide where you’d like to go next.
Today, I turn 33.
A new year of life.
A new chapter.
A fresh opportunity to become the woman I’m intentionally working toward.
For a long time, I believed creating my dream life meant waiting.
Waiting for the right season.
Waiting until I had more time.
Waiting until I felt more confident.
Waiting until life settled down.
Waiting until everything finally lined up the way I imagined.
But over the past year, I’ve learned something that has completely changed the way I think about life.
A dream life isn’t something you stumble upon. It’s something you create—one small choice at a time.
It’s built in the quiet mornings.
The meals you cook.
The books you read.
The conversations you have.
The hobbies you make time for.
The places you explore.
The habits you repeat.
The ordinary moments become your extraordinary life.
As I begin this new year, I don’t want to measure it only by milestones or accomplishments. I want to measure it by experiences, memories, and the kind of person I’m becoming along the way.
So I’m giving myself a simple birthday challenge.
Not as another checklist to complete.
Not to prove anything.
But as a gentle invitation to live more intentionally.
Over the next year, I want to embrace the beauty of saying yes to life in simple, meaningful ways.
I’ve always believed books have a way of expanding our world.
Some will teach me something new.
Some will inspire me.
Some will simply be cozy stories that make a rainy afternoon even better.
Reading slows me down. It encourages me to be present, curious, and always learning. I want to make more space for that this year.
If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know how much I love seasonal living.
There’s something magical about walking through a local farmers market on a Saturday morning, picking fresh flowers, discovering homemade jams, or filling a basket with produce grown just down the road.
I want to explore more of what my own community has to offer, support local growers, and experience each season through the people who make it possible.
Comfort zones are…comfortable.
But growth usually happens just outside of them.
Some of these “new things” might be big adventures.
Others might be as simple as trying a new recipe, taking a different hiking trail, learning a new skill, or saying yes to an opportunity I normally would have talked myself out of.
I don’t want fear to make my decisions anymore.
I want curiosity to lead the way.
Creating has always brought me joy.
Whether it’s painting furniture, decorating my home, sewing something by hand, organizing a forgotten corner, or making seasonal crafts, DIY projects remind me that beautiful things often come from patience and creativity.
This challenge isn’t about perfection.
It’s about making things with my own hands and enjoying the process.
The biggest changes rarely happen overnight.
They happen because of the habits we choose every single day.
This year, I want to intentionally build routines that support the life I’m creating.
Simple habits like:
Drinking more water
Walking every day.
Cooking from scratch.
Reading before bed instead of scrolling.
Spending time in my garden intentionally.
Keeping my home peaceful and organized.
Writing regularly.
Practicing gratitude.
Choosing rest without guilt.
One habit may not seem life-changing.
But thirty-three intentional habits, practiced consistently, have the power to shape an entirely different life.
It’s easy to look at a list like this and think it’s about productivity.
It’s not.
In fact, it’s the opposite.
This challenge isn’t about cramming more into my calendar.
It’s about filling my days with things that actually matter.
I want more afternoons wandering through farmers markets.
More mornings curled up with a good book and a cup of coffee.
More evenings working in the garden until the sun begins to set.
More weekends creating something with my hands.
More conversations around the dinner table.
More laughter.
More memories.
More moments that remind me this life is happening now.
When I look back on this year, I don’t want to remember how busy I was.
I want to remember how present I was.
I want to remember the books that changed my perspective.
The gardens I wandered through.
The recipes that became family favorites.
The projects that made my house feel even more like home.
The people I spent time with.
The little adventures that turned into cherished memories.
Most of all, I hope I can say that I lived this year with intention.
That I chose curiosity over comfort.
Growth over fear.
Presence over perfection.
Joy over rushing.
Because that’s what this chapter is really about.
Not becoming someone completely different.
But becoming more fully myself.
Here’s to slowing down.
To trying new things.
To learning, growing, creating, and exploring.
To building a life that feels rich not because of what it costs, but because of how deeply it’s lived.
Here’s to ordinary days filled with extraordinary moments.
Here’s to little adventures.
Here’s to choosing wonder.
Here’s to 33.
And here’s to making this year one I’ll always be grateful I lived. 🌿
I’d love for you to join me. What’s one thing you’d like to do more of this year? Whether it’s reading, traveling, gardening, creating, or simply slowing down, I’d love to hear about it in the comments. Here’s to making space for the things that truly matter. 🤍
