Charleston, South Carolina is well known for being such a beautiful place any time of year. It was named the Top City in the World by Conde Nast Traveler nine years in a row. From the sweet Southern charm to the centuries-old gorgeous architecture, Charleston is the crown jewel of the South.
I personally love Charleston. I have been there a few times and can’t wait to go back. There is so much to see, do, eat and enjoy there and going for a week at a time just isn’t enough time to see everything.
The last week of May was my most recent trip to Charleston. The weather was absolutely beautiful, mid 80’s all week long, humidity was a bit high but we lucked out on not a single day of rain.
WHERE TO STAY:
We stayed at the Hyatt which is right downtown Charleston. Everything we saw and did was within walking distance and when we wanted to go see the Plantation we were able to take quick Uber ride there.
Airbnb’s are very popular in Charleston. To stay on the affordable side I would pick an Airbnb too split with friends or a hotel. Though I love the bed & breakfast’s they can be a bit overpriced for your affordable trip, but if its a special occasion totally worth the money.
THINGS TO SEE IN CHARLESTON
Rainbow Row – Charleston’s most instagram-able spot. A row of 13 houses each a different color of the rainbow.
Pineapple Fountain & Waterfront Park
Boone Hall Plantation
The Battery – The perfect spot for a run, walk or time to enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks.
Historic Charleston City Market – First built in 1804, the City Market now features a wide variety of vendors selling souvenirs, jewelry, art, and the famous Gullah sweetgrass baskets. You could easily spend an hour or so just wandering the market and browsing the wares. The market is great for finding local souvenirs to bring home with you!
WHERE WE ATE:
When picking places to eat we always try to enjoy each category of food. Here are the varieties of places we have enjoyed there.
Big Bad Breakfast – Popular spot amongst tourist so get there early.
Poogan’s smokehouse – The best barbecue in town.
Oyster House – If you love seafood this would be the perfect spot to go to. Affordable and cute outdoor seating.
Little Callie biscuit – If you are looking for a quick breakfast this should be your first choice. Each biscuit is big enough to split or enjoy on your own.
John King Piano bar & Grill – BURGERS! If you are like me and love a good burger you have to try John King’s. We loved it so much we went there twice and each time enjoyed a different burger.
New York City pizza – This small business is the perfect Friday night pizza spot. Right near the water and perfect to grab a pizza and sit by the water while eating it.
Sugar Bakeshop – It was near our hotel and has the cutest little cupcakes. It was our Thursday morning breakfast and really couldn’t complain. Wish we grabbed a few more before we left.
Poogan’s Porch – #1 Brunch spot! Chicken and Waffles were a real hit here.
MY REVIEW:
Charleston will always have a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to go back and explore all the things we missed the last two times. Perfect week away or quick weekend getaway!
